Gerald used to have a studio in the Santora building in Santa Ana. His wonderful paintings that bridge the divide between abstract and figurative images immediately resonated with me. Often when I take a photograph of a sky I feel Gerald's influence. His work taught me that composition does not have to have a target or center, emptiness can be a subject.
